The only “Generation of Warfare” that requires total & complete mobilization is 0GW, Pre-Modern Warfare, which humanity was stuck in for most of our evolutionary history.
This might be a good place to review my Mel Gibson mnemonic for the “Generations of War”:
0GW: Braveheart
1 GW: The Patriot
2 GW: Gallipoli
3 GW: We Were Soldiers
4 GW: Mad Max
Too bad Mel wasn’t in the archetypal 5 GW movie, “The Matrix”…. (though I welcome commentary on if people believe The Passion qualifies as a 5GW tale — or perhaps Apocalypto.)
Dan: I believe TX’s point about 5GW is that it implicitly involves the entirety of society — not in the sense of “levee en masse”, but rather in the core societal values derived from standards of belief.
“Conspiracy Theory is a 1997 thriller directed by Richard Donner. It stars Mel Gibson as Jerry Fletcher, an eccentric taxi driver who believes that many world events are actually government conspiracies.”
…and…
“Jerry turns out to be linked to the murder of Alice’s father and to a mysterious scientist named Dr. Jonas (Patrick Stewart) who has been using a CIA program called MKULTRA to program Jerry as a Manchurian Candidate-style assassin. Some of the other conspiracy theories believed by Jerry seem to come true. For example, Jerry believes that NASA is trying to kill the President with a shuttle-mounted seismic weapon. Later in the movie, an earthquake occurs in a region of the world the President is visiting, and he narrowly escapes.”

LOL. Good stuff Shane.
Didn’t Mel do a film about conspracy theories?

Works for me! I think I’ll upgrade my briefing slides to add the new 5GW movie poster…
Hmmm… “MKULTRA”? Makes me want to crack open one of my wife’s Michelob Ultras.
