Jindal = GOP Obama = 2012
Positioning for the next election the same way the Dems did for Obama last time. Gives the keynote, enjoys the praise, gets to know the machinery, and then pounces next time around as the savior.
And he’s smart enough to play it right too.
(I’m no fan, but the guy knows how to be on the fast track.)
(All this is dependent upon McCain not winning, which discounts a major security incident)
Casshern + Vexille
Been on an eye-candy kick lately.
- English dubbed Vexille had an annoying protagonist, but other than that a good story and stellar visuals. (In the tradition of the first Final Fantasy movie.)
- Subtitled Casshern had absolutely fantastic visuals (digital backlot – like Sin City, Sky Captain etc) but messy, cluttered, and lame story telling to the point it was actually annoying.
Business Journalism
Most of it sucks. Was just reading Techmeme and realized I ignore anything by BusinessWeek, Forbes, etc. It’s just bad and too-late reporting. (Example: Rumors about the new Apple hardware. The blogs are much better and more comprehensive.)
Big biz media would be better off shuttering their reporting and focusing exclusively on school rankings (data intensive niche products that people would actually pay for).
The Dark Knight and the Nolans
The movie is fantastic. Just go watch it.
Also learned that, while Chris Nolan can direct, he should be relying on his brother Jonathan Nolan to write absolutely every flick he makes (J has been part of every C film that was phenomenal 0 Memento, The Prestige, The Dark Knight).
(Interstellar with Spielberg at the helm and J. Nolan writing is something I am very much looking forward to.)
Demand Destruction In India
I think Jeff is wrong on this one. If you’re only looking at the narrow slice of the picture that is readily clear, it is sure to reveal a collection of upward sloping trendlines. The Indian economic ecosystem is simply not vibrant enough to flourish on its own.
The problem is you’re missing out on all the noise the country is generating – political, economy, societal instability, etc. Structural instability coupled with a plethora of dissidents wielding advanced destructive capability in an era of declining energy availability will crash that economy.
As opposed to what Jeff implies, demand destruction in India and China won’t allow for “a more gradual response to energy scarcity” but will actually exacerbate the situation.
