Schools Embrace The Security Imperative
WaPo – I touched on this about 7 months ago –
In an increasing number of schools, security drives decisions about everything from where to place the principal’s office to what kinds of locks and windows are selected.
Advances in technology, however, make it easier for features such as metal detectors to be built directly into walls or to place surveillance cameras in ceilings, he said.
The school’s long hallways are designed for smooth traffic flow but also so they can be easily monitored by staff posted in strategic locations. Doors around the rest of the building allow people to leave but not enter the school.

Pakistani Suicide Attack
HChronicle –
In the deadliest suicide attack on the Pakistani military, a man with explosives strapped to his body ran up to soldiers doing calisthenics Wednesday and blew himself up, killing at least 42 troops and wounding 20.
Dargai is considered a stronghold of the outlawed Islamic group Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariat Mohammadi, whose fugitive leader, Faqir Mohammed, is a close associate of al-Qaida deputy chief Ayman al-Zawahri.
Pakistani military forces will likely respond harshly to this kind of attack and provoke more. The classic 4GW spiral comes into play.
