Report: Slate 60
Heh, not much to do, see, hear, talk, or care about unless you are ultra-wealthy.
Mildly deflated when I came across a Bush niece chatting with a young Rockefeller about their respective philanthropic pursuits. (My family arc, which I think is the fun way, was kicked off when my grandfather made up the our last name while bootstrapping his way off the plot of land that was our farm.)
Spirits were quickly picked up, however, when I discovered myself rubbing elbows with Carlos Slim Helú and nearly colliding with Governors Spitzer and Beebe.
Anyway the mere mortals eventually clustered and had a good time before ducking out early to rejoin the rat race.
SAS + Iran
Times –
BRITISH special forces have crossed into Iran several times in recent months as part of a secret border war against the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s Al-Quds special forces, defence sources have disclosed.
An SAS squadron is carrying out operations along the Iranian border in Maysan and Basra provinces with other special forces, the Australian SAS and American special-operations troops.
They are patrolling the border, ambushing arms smugglers bringing in surface-to-air missiles and components for roadside bombs.
Democracy + Youtube
This new project: 10 Questions is the first step to remedy the flaws outlined in my previous critique of the so-called Youtube debates.
Next step, make that a rolling process with unlimited questions.
Fun thinking: Candidates could automate on-the-fly splicing of prerecorded video clips – you could probably get away with a database of a few thousands snippets of words and numbers – and string together coherent localized answers with – data of any given area bought from open source intelligence collectors – to allow the candidate to respond on a 1:1 basis.
Slate 60 Conference on Innovative Philanthropy
I will be there tonight and maybe tomorrow night.
