Netflix Roku Box = VCR

Unimpressed. This thing is like the VCR of streaming. No HD, no 5.1.

Wonder if Netflix ever looked at the feasibility of DVD on demand delivered by partnering with UPS.

Rough idea: UPS downloads full DVD’s of the movies from the studios, burns them at 0dark30 based on who ordered what yesterday. Adds these as part of its delivery platform. Picks them up, rewrites over the DVD-RW the next morning. Rinse and repeat.

Obviously, this is before streaming becomes viable, which based on the ranking of the US in the world, won’t be for a while, especially with Comcast etc taking the helm. But DVD-RW’s could suddenly become relevant, Netflix could speed up , shut down the warehouses, and pay studios on a per-burn basis (someone else can crunch the numbers). (Or UPS could do the same and put Netflix out of business.)

Review: RitzPix

I’m pretty impressed with RitzPix.com , was able to upload my pictures, crop as I wanted dependent on size, and then go pick them up at a nearby Wolf Camera location in an hour. It really needs a total user interface revamp though, everything works, but in the way MS would put it together. With a sexier interface, I think this may be the right model -just prior to real user fabrication.

Key: Reacting To System Shocks

Sparked by PS . Understanding that:

5GW is what we label the emergent pattern formed by a distributed multitude of empowered individuals acting in concert by acting in their own self interest, without any collaboration.

Point: Understanding that warfare is not all that different from any other system shock. Value: you build systems that are resilient and able to handle all of them.

Logic: The more naturally unpredictable events you can deal with, the better. Examples: tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc. (Differentiated from brute force attacks such as hurricanes or any kind of warfare utilizing tanks.) The commonality is the disruption of service delivery infrastructure, now able to be replicated by small groups or one individual. The tactical mechanics of warfare matter less in an era where anyone can do anything at any time from scratch. This means flat, lean platforms that are able to foster reactions to all system shocks effectively are key.

RC’s are the strategy until we can see or know more about 5GW (all we can currently know is in that paragraph), although I don’t think this core understanding will change.

Conference on PEI

Courtesy of Paterson and Richards: another Boyd-based conference. This one focused on RC’s and 5GW. I’ve fired off a statement of interest. You should too.

Strategy Page

I don’t understand why Strategy Page is treated as a worthwhile or real resource by anyone, specifically Memeorandum. This article exemplifies the site.
